Born in Athens, she studied at the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, School of Law (LL.B., B.A. in Public Law and Political Sciences and LL.M. in Criminal Sciences) and the Albert-Ludwigs-Universität, Freiburg i.Br., Juristische Fakultät (Dr. Jur. in Criminology). She worked as a scientific assistant at the Max-Planck-Institut für ausländisches und internationales Strafrecht, Freiburg, with which she maintains a cooperation until today, as well as a researcher at the Institute of Procedural Studies, Athens. Since 1986 she teaches, both at the undergraduate and the postgraduate programs, at the Department of Sociology of the Panteion University of Social and Political Sciences, where she has the position of Professor of Criminology and Corrections (since 2003). She organized the Program of Practical Training of the Department of Sociology, of which she was the scientific coordinator from 1998 until 2010. She has coordinated and has participated in several Greek and European research projects. Her theoretical, research, teaching and writing interests include: criminological theory, corrections and penology, juvenile delinquency and juvenile law, social control, drugs, new technologies and crime. Books and articles (in peer-reviewed journals and collective volumes) of hers have been published in Greece and abroad.
